WHO WE ARE

Katie Hoffman has been crafting her whole life, but most recently took time away from her career as a nonprofit arts and education manager to raise her three children. During that time, she reconnected with her creative side and began exploring mixed media art. She landed happily back into knitting and crochet and hasn't looked back. She hopes to bring Houston a fresh, modern shop that cares about sustainability, inclusivity, and community - Scout & Skein's core values.

AN ORIGIN STORY

WHY "SCOUT & SKEIN"

Scout & Skein is born out of the desire to find our community the best yarns out there. We will search, ahem, "scout", these yarns for you and you are welcome to stop by and scout for the ones you want to add to your stash or next project. Our owner, Katie, is a lifelong Girl Scout, and so "Scout" also nods to the values of scouting and the important role it played in her life.

The word "Skein" helps identify us as a yarn shop! And we'll be honest, we like the way "Scout & Skein" sounds together. We hope you do too!

WHAT WE OFFER

Scout & Skein promises to provide a welcoming community, starting online, but expanding to a brick & mortar in 2025.

We offer a range of yarns, notions, books, patterns (coming soon), and magazines. Additionally, we want to help you find your next favorite project. We will provide design services, classes, craft nights, and trunk shows, just to name a few ways we hope to grow our community.

Most importantly, we want to make a shop you feel invested in - therefore we want your input, feedback, ideas, and wish lists always and often. It will only help us serve you better over the years.
